BLOCH x Noelle Axalan
The Collaboration
Her work demonstrating an interest in rhythm and expression, Noelle Axalan’s water color works well as a representation of the changing seasons in a way that suits the 1900 ballet. The application of her work to BLOCH’s apparel and dance wear breathes in a new sense of life and individuality to the typical ballerina uniform, allowing dancers to embody their style not only through dance, but through their clothing as well.
Artisans of Dance Apparel
Founded in 1932, BLOCH is one of the oldest and longest standing dance apparel brands in the industry. Known for the craftsmanship and reliability of their products, BLOCH boasts a dedication to the craft of dance, their careful attention to material selection, innovative designs, and masterful construction all closely linked to the art of dance and the strenuous work of dancers.
Dancer, Designer, Artist
Her choice of medium water color, Noelle Axalan is an artist who values elegance, rhythm, and expression in her artwork, all derived from her experience as a dancer.
An Allegorical Ballet in One Act
First performed by the Imperial Ballet in 1900, The Seasons is an allegorical representation of the changing seasons through dance, performed to the composition of Alexander Glazunov and choreographed by Marius Petipa.
The ballet’s focus on the changing of seasons provides a thematic thread for this collaboration, not only in visuals, but in symbolic meaning. The rotating and revolving nature of the change of seasons represents the many different facets of the individual, speaking to the ever changing spirit of the dancer. There is not a single look for the dancer, a single emotion or feeling, and as such this collaboration provides a myriad of complimentary styles that allow dancers to explore an individualistic aesthetic.
For the Free Spirited Iconoclast
Bloch creates products for the passionate, our customers all demonstrating a strong sense of discipline and passion for their craft. This collection in particular is made for those with more than just a dedication to improvement, but for those with a passion for breaking the status quo.
While there are more options for colorful and individualistic ballet apparel designs for younger dancers, there is a void in this market for the audience of older dancers. This collaboration caters to dedicated dancers who seek to express themselves through their clothing.
